Human Resource Solutions for Employers

Examining the 3 R's - Recruitment, Retention and Remuneration

Saskatchewan’s labour market faces a broad range of challenges over the next decade. A number of factors contribute to this challenge:

  • The average age of Saskatchewan's labour force is on the rise while the population between 20 and 44 continues to decline;
  • Net out-migration has increased rapidly since 1999 and continues to threaten the stability of the provincial population;
  • Saskatchewan’s wage rates and the associated benefit packages that are offered by employers are often describes as average to below average;
  • The provincial aboriginal population is increasing at a rate of approximately 3.6% per year but their current involvement in the labour market is not sufficient to compensate for employment losses resulting from age and out-migration.

Many employers report that they have employment opportunities available but cannot find the right candidates for the job.

In order to help overcome the employer challenges, a seminar dealing with human resource planning issues of recruitment, retention and remuneration was held in Yorkton recently, sponsored by Saskatchewan Community Resources & Employment, Career and Employment Services, in partnership with the Good Spirit REDA, the Cornerstone REDA, Tourism Yorkton and the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.

The modules provided to participants are available here online for employers to read, print and download.
